About the Puja

What is Mahamrityunjaya Jaap?

The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra — “Om Tryambakam Yajamahe…” — is an ancient Vedic mantra from the Rigveda (Mandala 7) and the Yajurveda, addressed to Lord Shiva as Tryambaka. It is one of the most widely chanted prayers in the Hindu tradition.

In Mahamrityunjaya Jaap, our Pandits chant the mantra a set number of times with a Sankalp taken in the name of the person for whom the prayers are offered. Traditional counts include 11,000, 21,000, 51,000 and 1,25,000 (Sava Lakh), and the Jaap concludes with Dashansh Havan.

Traditional purpose

Families traditionally offer Mahamrityunjaya Jaap as a prayer for the well-being of a loved one. This is a spiritual practice and is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment.

What the Acharya performs

A typical vidhi includes Ganesh Puja, Sankalp, Shiva Puja, Mahamrityunjaya Mantra Japa by the Pandits (count as agreed), and Dashansh Havan — Ahutis equal to one-tenth of the Japa count. The Japa count and number of Pandits are confirmed by the Acharya team.

What you should know

Share the name of the person for whom the Sankalp is taken, their Gotra (if known), and any specific Japa count you have been advised.

How the process works

After you book, our Kashi team contacts you on WhatsApp or phone to confirm the date and timing, note the names and Gotra for your Sankalp, and explain any preparations. On the day, the Acharya performs the Puja in Kashi — you can join through a live stream or be present in person, depending on the option you choose.
